Feb 16,  · Welcome to Android Central! That usually happens when you get an MMS message (i.e., a text with a photo attached, or a group text) and your mobile data isn't on. Check to make sure your mobile data is on. This can not be the case with me as the issue is intermittent (I actually got one of these errors again yesterday) There was some SNAFU about MMS when initially when I got my phone with tmobile where they had me enter a url to download mms messages from, and then the MMS flowed (before signal). Couldn’t download; Downloading Message expired or not available. We solved this problem with these steps. From the Home screen, open “Settings“. Select “Apps“. Choose “Messenger“. Select “Storage“. Select “Clear Data” and “Clear Cache“. Open “Messenger” and tap the stuck messages to attempt to download them again.

Try it and see if it works better. Be warned that you may lose your text history though.
